This is a half day course intended to update those who have already  attended the full day on Safer Recruitment.

It is based upon recommendations from the Bichard Enquiry(following the deaths of Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman) and aims to ensure Safe Recruitment of those working with Children and Young People.

Applicants must have previously attended the full day Safer Recruitment before applying for a Refresher Course. There is no longer a requirement to do a refresher every 5 years, applicants can identify their own needs.

Target Audience : Groups 6-8

Anyone involved in the recruitment of people who work (paid or unpaid) with Children and Young People.

Learning Outcomes 

As in the full day on Safer Recruitment - an update on developing safer practice in the Recruitment process.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course you will:

  • An understanding of offender behaviour.
  • Awareness of the key features of staff recruitment that help to deter or prevent the appointment of unsuitable people.
  • Developed confidence that you will be more able to practice safer recruitment.

TSCB minimum standards for basic single agency safeguarding children awareness raising training are designed to assure that relevant training across all agencies and services in Tameside is delivered to a consistently high standard. They will be utilised by the Learning Improvement and Activity Sub- Group to quality assure relevant training. It should be noted that basic single agency awareness training should not be utilised to negate the requirement for professionals or volunteers in Tameside, whose work brings them into with children and their families, from acquiring or refreshing their Multi-Agency safeguarding knowledge via TSCB’s Multi-Agency Training Offer.
